What You Need to Know about Watercolor Paper
There are so many types of watercolor paper, it can be hard to know which to buy. Here’s my advice: All of the masters painted on Arches, a French paper that has been around since 1492. You should paint on Arches, too—and Arches 140 lb. cold press is an excellent choice when you’re getting started painting watercolor.
In this video I’ll answer all your questions about watercolor paper. Why should you avoid student grade paper? What’s the difference between hot press, cold press and rough papers? What does the paper weight refer to, and which is better—90 lb., 140 lb. and 300 lb.? What if you don’t want to make a 22” x 30” painting? And more.
