(8 Nov 2018) A rare pink diamond is expected to fetch 30-50 million US dollars when it goes to auction in Geneva next week.
The Pink Legacy diamond is the largest of its kind that the auction house Christie's has ever sold.
Rahul Kadakia, international head of jewellery at Christie's, said that in the past 251 years of the company's history there hadn't been more than four pink diamonds of over 10 carats.
"So, this stone at 19 carats is really a phenomenon."
Kadakia said the diamond, once belonging to the Oppenheimer family, qualifies as a Type IIa diamond: among the most chemically pure stones with little if any nitrogen.
The gem goes on sale on Tuesday as part of Christie's Magnificent Jewels auction.
