The Nest Protect review and setup helps you install your Nest Protect and get it up and running with the Nest app. This video is for the 2017 2nd generation Nest Protect Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Wired version. It is a wifi enabled Intelligent smoke and carbon monoxide detector which has several features that differentiate it from your every day run of the mill Smoke and CO2 detectors.

It has an industrial-grade smoke sensor, tests itself automatically, and lasts up to a decade. The nest app is available on android and iOS devices and it allows you to control your nest devices from anywhere you have a wifi, 3G or 4G connection. When it is dark in your home Nest Protect lights up as you walk underneath it. So you don't end up with a stubbed toe during those late night trips for a midnight snack.

Nest Protect gives you an early warning so that you can handle the simple things like burning toast before it becomes a burning kitchen. If also tells you where the danger is. When one speaks they all speak. So the alarm in your bedroom can tell you when there is Carbon monoxide or smoke in another room. You can get alerts on your phone when you're away from home and You can turn off the alarm from your phone as well. The nest protect works with other devices to make things simpler for you. It works with the Nest Thermometer and Rheem Water Heater. When smoke or Carbon Monoxide is detected Nest protect will send a signal to these devices to turn them off.

This helps to minimize damage to your home and injury to your family. It works with Nest Cam to tell you how an alarm was triggered. If your Nest Protect senses smoke or carbon monoxide, Nest Cam will start recording so you can go back and see what happened. Nest Protect is also IFTTT compatible. IFTTT allows you to setup or create applets for making devices turn on or send push notifications when a Nest Protect Alarm is triggered.

Download and install the nest app from the google play store or the apple app store. Follow the steps in the app. Switch off the circuit breaker for the room where you are installing Nest Protect or remove the fuse from the fuse box. To prevent electrical shock, make sure the green power light is off on the alarm you are replacing.

You may have to twist the alarm to release it. Carefully remove it to keep from damaging your ceiling or wall. Unscrew the back plate from the electrical box. Save the screws to install the Nest Protect back plate later. Unscrew the wire nuts to detach the 120v connector from your old smoke detector. The exposed wire should be straight. Hold the white wire ends together, cap them with a wire nut and twist clockwise until it's secure. Do the same with the black wires. There's no need for the red/orange/yellow wire. Simply cap it with a wire nut and twist until secure. Screw the Nest back plate to the existing electrical box, reusing the existing screws.

You can also screw the back plate directly into the wall or ceiling using the Nest screws. Plug the 120V connector into the back of your Nest Protect. Tuck any excess wiring into the electrical box. Line up the three tabs on the back of your Nest Protect with the notches on the back plate. Hold Nest Protect against the back plate and turn it clockwise. Continue turning until it's square with the wall or ceiling.
