STORYLINE:
A parked car bomb exploded early on Sunday near the Iranian embassy in the Karadit Mariam neighbourhood of Baghdad, killing at least two civilians and wounding four others, police said.
The blast occurred in an area that was also close to the parking lot of the Iraqi Ministry of Defence and the fortified Green Zone which houses the US and British embassies and Iraqi leadership.
Also on Sunday, a car bomb exploded at a parking lot in Karradah neighbourhood killing at least one person, wounding four others while setting fire to several civilian cars.
Thick plumes of smoke from the explosion could be seen from a distance.
Karradah is one of the busiest commercial markets in central Baghdad.
The injured were sent to Ibn al-Nafis hospital for treatment.
The attacks came a day after a suicide car bomb struck near the headquarters of a major Shiite political bloc in Baghdad, killing at least three people and wounding six, police said.
The explosion occurred about 5 pm (1400 GMT )on Saturday in the south-eastern neighbourhood of Jadriyah, some 200-300 metres (656 -984 feet) away from the headquarters of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI).
The Shiite bloc carries the strongest voice in the 275-seat parliament and is run by Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, whose son Amar was detained for nearly 12 hours by US forces on Friday as he crossed back from Iran.
Three cars and a house also were damaged in the blast, police said.
The injured were sent to a nearby local hospital for treatment.
