In this video, we are exploring some old maps made in the 17th century.
In particular one made by Gerardus Mercator, the father of the map we all use today, Mercator was a highly influential pioneer in the history of cartography.
On this map there are clearly defined land masses in the North Pole region that no longer exist today, or at least not shown or talked about on any modern day maps.
And in the centre of this North Pole region sits the Rupes Nigra which has been described as a magnetic black mountain and was perhaps said to be responsible for why compasses point north.
We also see regions of Siberia with towns and potential cities that are now barren tundra devoid of any civilization.
