This quick guide will show you the basics of using an alcohol stove for the first time. These types of stoves are reliable, and cheap and offer a quiet burn with time to boil/cook being the trade-off.
I am using methylated spirits as the fuel but there are a variety of different fuels that you can use, such as; bioethanol and denatured alcohol. All of these are relatively cheap. I use methylated spirits as my fuel of choice because it's cheap, reliable and safe to transport. You can also mix about 10% water in with it to make it last longer.
Although these stoves are great, it is important to remember that if spilt, the fuel will continue to burn wherever it is spilt. Always wait until the burner has run out of fuel and the flame has gone before adding more fuel. Please wait for it to cool down before handling it.
In this video, I am using the Lixada mini alcohol burner from Amazon. The burner is 75mm wide and 46mm high. It comes with a sealing and fire extinguishing cover that you can also use to adjust the flame. It also comes with a pot stand that the stove fits into and a nice drawstring pouch. The pack weight is 188g.
Although the seal is waterproof, I usually prefer to let the fuel burn out completely rather than carrying it with fuel inside the burner. This is just my preference. I also carry the fuel in a Trangia fuel container, which I find better and easier to fill the burner to minimise the risk of spillage. These containers come in a variety of sizes.
I hope this video has been helpful to you.
