I was tired of my probe wires getting pinched.
So, I drilled a hole in my Weber
Installed a grommet.
And now my probes are out of the way, don’t get pinched, and I get a better seal.
My Weber has a side table, so I removed that first to get a clear shot for my drill.
I found a good spot for the port in the back, right below the kettle lip, and above the grate.
I taped it off to help prevent the drill from slipping, drew a rough outline, marked center, and drilled a pilot hole.
I used a step bit to get the hole to 1.25 inches. I alternated between drilling from the outside and inside.
You could paint that rough edge with high temp paint, but I’m not worried about it. I just sanded it a little to remove any burrs.
I slit the eyes of my grommet so my probes could fit in easily. I then lubed it up with some olive oil and maneuvered it into the hole.
I reassembled the grill and sent a probe through the port and it worked out great.
Give this mod a try and let me know how it turns out. It will probably void your warranty, but I’m not worried because I’m keeping this one forever.
