Vietnam President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has submitted his resignation, having held the ceremonial position for just under two years. He will be the country's first president to be ousted while in office, amid a widening anti-corruption crackdown led by Communist Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong. Mr Phuc was forced to resign over corruption scandals during his time as prime minister from 2016 to 2021. One of those scandals involved a COVID-19 test kit fraud at a private company. According to government sources, Mr Phuc's wife and relatives were allegedly involved in the case.
