The government-funded, exploration-focused world of ‘Old Space’ is gradually making way for a more entrepreneurial and commercial ‘New Space’. But we’re not there yet: we’re in the altogether more complex and contested stage of ‘Smart Space’, where the public sector continues to have a substantial role and where emerging technologies are potentially changing the arc of the possible.
Season One of Oxford Saïd’s series of discussions on Smart Space brought together academics, expert practitioners, entrepreneurs, and public sector representatives to share insights and raise questions about issues of space commerce and governance: new types of funding, rules and relationships, rights and responsibilities, people and sustainability.
In this video, Marc Ventresca, Associate Professor of Strategic Management at Oxford Saïd, presents a review of the key ideas discussed, and suggests issues for future investigation and debate.
The Oxford Smart Space series provides first-hand insights into the opportunities and challenges of the global space industry. It is co-hosted by the Oxford Space Initiative, along with Pembroke College and the Oxford Aeronautical Society (AerOx). Find out more:[ Ссылка ]
