PADADANI proudly presents a traditional song by Santa Shishunaala Shareef " AMBAAGAARUTIYANNU DEVIGAARUTIYANNU".
Santha ShishunaaLa Shareefa was a 19th Century Indian Mystic saint. He was the son of an Imam Saheb, who was a disciple of Hajaresha Qadri, whose dream was to unite Hinduism and Islam. Hajaresha Qadri used to give “Linga Deeksha”, or initiation by tying a linga around the neck of a disciple, as per the Hindu Lingayat tradition. His father used to teach him Ramayana, Mahabharata, and even the teachings of Allama Prabhu. Legend has it that Shishunala Sharifa was conceived with the blessings of Basavanna. He was a disciple of Govinda Bhatta, who was famous in the region as an unconventional Master. He cared little for caste or religion, and spent more time with anyone who invited him. The radical values propounded by his Guru had a huge impact on Santa ShishunaaLa Shareefa who propounded theories such as NirguNatva, Advaitha, egalitarianism and equity in Society through his teachings and songs which he composed called Tatvapadas. The song "Ambagaaruthiyannu Devigaruthiyannu" is a tatvapada composed by Santha ShishunaaLa Shareefa in praise of the Goddess Durga. This Tatvapada has been sung in a particular traditional tune for many years now by people of Northern Karnataka. The musical composition corresponds to Raag Bhoop. The melody has been preserved and further beautified by Pt. Lingaraj Buwa Yaraguppi.
