Ashes of the Singularity, a difficult RTS game, was tested at 1080p on the Crazy preset to compare Linux and Windows performance on a Ryzen 5900X and an RTX 3070. The built-in benchmark assesses intensive scenarios, ranging from enormous unit fights to complicated rendering effects. Windows had a tiny advantage, providing 5-10 FPS faster on average, but Linux remained remarkably close. Despite the small lag, Linux performed brilliantly in CPU-intensive tasks, demonstrating how far gaming drivers and Vulkan optimisations have progressed. Frame pacing on Linux was smoother than expected, with only slight deviations. Overall, Linux demonstrated its ability to withstand the heat, performing comparably to Windows in this graphically taxing assessment.
