A villager became trapped under rubble when the well he was working in collapsed in Huanggang city of central China’s Hubei Province on Thursday.
The villager was found trapped inside the four-meter deep well with his lower body stuck fast by crumbling rocks. The situation was very dangerous as the well could collapse for a second time.
The rubble crammed the already tiny well, hampering rescue efforts.
Firefighters swiftly put up a rescue tripod and lowered a firefighter into the well, yet just as he was clearing away rubble inside, the well collapsed for a second time.
"When I got ready to rescue the trapped person, another collapse occurred. I used my body to ward off the falling rubble to avoid them from getting hurt. Then I observed the well and discovered that its stone wall was coming loose, so I asked the rescue workers above to pass me some wooden sticks and boards to fortify the loose parts," said Zhu Xingjin from the fire brigade in Qichun County, central China's Hubei Province.
After nearly two hours' rescue efforts, the villager was finally brought to safety above ground.
