זו השנה ה-65 לקיומו של "טקס הדלקת המשואות" המציין את המעבר בין יום הזיכרון לחגיגות העצמאות.
טקס הדלקת המשואות הוא הטקס הרשמי שנועל את אירועי יום הזיכרון לחללי מערכות ישראל ופותח את חגיגות יום העצמאות. הטקס נערך ברחבת קברו של חוזה המדינה בנימין זאב הרצל בהר הרצל בירושלים והאישיות המרכזית בו היא יו"ר הכנסת. בנוסף לו נוכחים בטקס שרים, חברי כנסת, הרמטכ"ל, אנשי סגל דיפלומטי, משפחות שכולות, נכי צה"ל, ואישים אחרים.
