Today I represented the Equity Comedians' Network at Equity's Four Pillars Rally and #PantoParade as I spoke about how comedians have been hit by the lockdown and the lack of swift and targeted government support.
Pantomime dames, creative workers and people excluded from government support during the pandemic joined together to march, socially distanced, through London. The rest of us spoke online via Zoom...something we're all getting used to now.
The Panto Parade, which aimed to highlight the lack of panto this year and the wider damage the theatre and live events industry are suffering, started at Cambridge Circus and ended in Parliament Square ahead of Prime Minister’s Questions. People excluded from government support during the pandemic marched from the Southbank to Parliament Square at the same time.
The message was clear. Continue supporting the individuals and not just the institutions that make up the comedy industry. Also, those of our members who have received no financial support so far need to be looked after, or risk losing the Arts industry altogether.
