Rose (Golde-Reyzl) Stone [Birtsein], sister of Yiddish writer Yossel Birstein, describes her education as a child in Biala-Podlaska, Poland. She learned Yiddish with about 20 other girls in someone's home and attended Polish school once she was old enough. She also describes her poverty and explains what was difficult about going to Polish school as a Jew.
