The first part has some character gameplay, while the second features a boss fight in Gears.
I've been wanting to try out PCSX-Reloaded's widescreen hack for a while, but it doesn't work well with games with 2D backgrounds.
It works pretty well with Xenogears, though. I haven't encountered many graphical issues, other than on the world map (where you'll see large tiles of terrain "pop" in and out of existence near the left and right edges of the screen).
