Fusarium head blight (FHB), or scab, is a fungal disease that can occur on all small-grain crops. The disease is seen most commonly on spring wheat, winter wheat, durum and barley, causing significant reductions in yield and quality. Watch university experts from around the U.S. talk about current best management tools to use against FHB.
The U.S. Wheat and Barley Scab Initiative:
- Federally funded program to understand and manage Fusarium head blight of wheat and barley
- Officially began in 1997 and has improved our understanding of host resistance, pathogen biology, fungicide selection, fungicide timing and importance of integrated management.
- Economic assessment in 2017 has reported $71 in benefits for every $1 that has been invested.
