Australian captain Pat Cummins opted to bat first after winning the toss, and his decision was justified by debutant Sam Konstas, who took Indian bowlers to the cleaners in the morning session of the first day’s play. At lunch on Day 1 at MCG, Australia reached 112/1 in 25 overs.
The 19-year-old Konstas from New South Wales hammered 60 runs from just 65 balls in his maiden outing and added 89 runs for the first wicket in 19.2 overs with Usman Khawaja.
India has made one change to the playing XI from the last match that ended in a draw at The Gabba. All-rounder Washington Sundar has been included in place of Shubman Gill.
During the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has confirmed that he will open the innings, and Rahul is most likely to take the No. 3 position now.
