This beautiful village hidden away in Japan’s mountains is Ouchi-juku, a former rest stop for Edo Period travellers in Fukushima Prefecture.
Many buildings have been preserved exactly as they were two hundred years ago, when the samurai walked these same roads to visit the northern fortress of Tsuruga Castle in Aizu-Wakamatsu.
These days, people take their dogs for walkies there and I met so many 🐶
📍 Ouchi-juku, Shimogo, Minamiaizu District, Fukushima 969-5207
🚗 40 min drive from Aizu-Wakamatsu City
🚶 (Real samurai will walk the seven hours)
