Forehand overhead clear is played from your rear court into the opponent’s rear court.
This is a fundamental shot in badminton because the preparation for this shot also applies to drop shot and smash.
When/Why?
Overhead clears push your opponent back, creating space in the forecourt.
Attacking clears aim to place the shuttle behind the opponent, creating pressure and weaker returns.
Defensive clears allow you to have more time to recover balance and court position.
How to play this?
Start / Prepare in a ready position, with the racket in front of body. Use basic grip.
Approach by crossing behind or a chasse movement to move into sideways position. Racket leg is placed behind. Hold racket up with racket arm in L shaped ready position. Non-racket arm is raised for balance, aiming at the shuttle.
Complete a throwing action, reaching to strike the shuttle above/slightly in front of racket shoulder with the body weight transferring through the hit. Tighten grip on impact.
Racket arm follows through and racket leg transfers from rear to front body position. Recover by moving to a ready base position to receive the return.
