In the early 1920s, Shoghi Effendi, the newly appointed Guardian of the Bahá’í Faith, faced a daunting array of challenges as he stepped into his role. Entrusted with leading the global Bahá’í community following the passing of his grandfather, ʻAbdu’l-Bahá, Shoghi Effendi's leadership was marked by trials from both internal dissent and external pressures. Despite these obstacles, he began laying the foundations for the Universal House of Justice, convening senior Bahá’ís from around the world to establish Local and National Houses. Seeking solace and clarity, Shoghi Effendi retreated to Switzerland, where he engaged in deep personal reflection amidst the serene mountain landscape. Returning to Haifa with renewed resolve, he dedicated himself fully to the service of the Bahá’í Faith, guiding its expansion and fortifying its administrative framework. This period of his life highlights his unwavering commitment and the profound spiritual journey he undertook as the Faith’s Guardian.
