(28 Jul 2016) President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach visited on Wednesday the new site in Rio de Janeiro that will house the Olympic Pyre.
It will be the first time in the Olympic Games' history that the Pyre won't burn in an Olympic Stadium thus giving a chance to thousands of residents and tourists to see the Pyre without buying tickets to the competitions.
The site of the cauldron that will hold the Olympic Pyre is not open to the public yet and construction workers were still giving it some last touches while Bach, Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes and the President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, Carlos Nuzman were approaching the podium for a press conference.
Mayor Paes said the site of the cauldron that is located between Guanabara Bay and the Candelaria church is one of the Olympic legacies.
The cauldron itself is covered by canvas and will not be seen till the opening of the games on 5 August.
But the main theme of the press conference was the situation of the apartments at the Olympic Village after the 700-member of the Australian delegation refused to check in three days earlier because of water and gas leaks, electrical shorts and malfunctioning toilets.
Paes and Bach visited the village on Wednesday morning and said the problems have been solved.
Bach left the press conference and joined other Olympic staff officials at a corner bar for a the traditional "cafezinho" (small coffee) and said that in his first day in Rio and that he was feeling like a true Carioca (person born in Rio).
