Often unseen and underestimated, data systems utilized by archives, libraries, and museums are at the core of problematic methods applied in the process of accession and archiving material culture. These systems hold a great deal of power as the (mis)information or absence of information contained therein pose enduring challenges that often adversely affect marginalized communities. This presentation will explore issues related to Indigenous data sovereignty and provenance through the lens of restorative measures currently being introduced and employed in communities around the world with the Local Contexts Traditional Knowledge and Bio-Cultural Labels and Notices.
