Mele Angell Veatupu is the Retail & Hospitality Assistant at Zealong Tea Estate and our latest Tourism Hero!

Her story is a fantastic example of how tourism and hospitality roles can come from a commercial operation. Rather than keep their production closed, Zealong Tea created a range of opportunities to welcome visitors onto their estate through retail, tours, events and an established tea house. As New Zealand's only tea producer and a beautiful destination to visit, it's no wonder Zealong has become one of the Waikato's top tourism attractions.

Mele's dream to travel the world lead her to study a Bachelor of Business at the University of Waikato, majoring in tourism and hospitality. Her studies then led to an internship at Zealong Tea Estate, which is now a full-time position. In her role, Mele has been given a range of opportunities that has built up her skillset, such as opening a children's clubhouse onsite and assisting with VIP events.

Although she's still quite early into her career, she's excited by her future prospects in tourism and hospitality and knows a company like Zealong Tea Estate can help her progress - not only here in New Zealand, but internationally.
