Location : Kampung Taee, Serian, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Kampung Taee about 40km from Kuching is a Bidayuh village situated between Panchor Hotspring and Serian town. This village is more famous for its durians and pretty girls.
But surprisingly, Gawai celebration this year on the 1st of June, we saw a very stunning transformation of this village into a hotbed of cultural activities that is worthy of a place in our tourism calender, without a doubt. We did see quite a number of tourists during the event though. This has been an annual celebration and the last time I attended was 5 years ago.
It’s good to note that thanks to the hardworking organising committee this event has blossomed to what it is today. Never have we seen such solidarity and participation in any village. Every single family was coming out either in their best costumes or offering food and drinks by the roadside to guests passing by.
The heavily decorated mobile gong ensemble was a very unique feature too. The participation of an Iban and Lun Bawang dancer added more colours and rhythms to the occasion. Enjoy the photos and the Gawai spirit of Taee and make sure you be there next year.
