It’s now July and we’re halfway through winter. This winter will be the first one out of lockdown for many of us, which means our immune systems would have taken a hit by getting sick with cold/flu, and possibly COVID-19.
If you have had three doses of COVID-19 vaccine, you will be able to get a fourth vaccine. The Australian Technical Advisory Group (ATAGI) announced that people who are 30 and over are now able to get the fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine from Monday 11th July 2022.
If you received your third COVID-19 vaccine more than three months ago, you can get your fourth from Monday.
However, if you were sick with COVID-19 recently, you will need to wait three months until you can get your fourth dose.
ATAGI recommends people who are over 50, and those who are at risk such as those with disability, immunocompromised, or have underlying medical conditions to receive their fourth dose as soon as possible so they have the greatest protection possible against COVID-19.
60% of people aged 65 and over have received their fourth dose.
It is important to stay safe, as the COVID-19 pandemic is not finished. Wearing a mask in public spaces is still highly recommended, as it protects you and many others – especially those who may be at high risk of getting sick with COVID-19.
If you are not sure if you should get the fourth COVID-19 vaccine dose, please make an appointment to see your GP as they will be able to advise you.
