Reflection for the Third Sunday of Advent: Rejoicing in Hope
Today, I hear the call to rejoice, to lift my heart with hope even in the face of life’s challenges. Zephaniah tells me to sing for joy because I am not alone—the Lord is in my midst, a mighty savior who renews me with love. This promise fills me with courage, reminding me that even in the darkest moments, there is light and redemption.
In the Gospel, John the Baptist challenges me to examine my life. He tells the crowd to share with those who have less, to act with honesty, and to be content with what they have. These words resonate deeply with me, especially now, when so many struggle with need and despair. I ask myself: How can I share what I have? How can I live with greater integrity and simplicity?
Paul’s words inspire me further: "Rejoice always." This joy is not about ignoring struggles but about trusting that peace comes when I offer my anxieties to God in prayer. When I focus on gratitude, I find my heart guarded by a peace that is beyond understanding. It gives me strength to face the uncertainties around me with faith and resilience.
Advent is my time to prepare, to make space for hope, love, and joy in my life. I wait with expectation, but I do not wait idly. I look for ways to reflect the light of the One who is coming—through acts of kindness, compassion, and justice. Each step I take toward others brings me closer to the renewal I seek in my own heart.
As I light the candle of joy, I feel its warmth reminding me of the promises I hold onto. I choose to live as a messenger of hope, confident that love and light will overcome the darkness.
