In this episode we are exploring an abandoned movie theater that closed its doors permanently in October 2017. Regal Cinemas had been leasing the space since 1997 which means they were open for business for 21 years. The theater was once a popular and bustling cinema and was actually the only one in its town. After the movie theater closed for good, the town was full of confusion after learning that the landlord of the property administratively dissolved and was no longer authorized to do business in the state the theater resides in. The town manager stated that he’s never seen something like this where you have a high-value property and no apparent owner. In 2022 the town was awarded ownership of the property through tax lien foreclosure of the site. There has since been attempts by the town to sell the property but they haven’t been able to successfully solidify a deal. Now in 2024, there is still no fate in place for the property and the theater continues to sit abandoned and forgotten.
