Headstart: A lawmaker questioned Thursday Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa's plan to conduct his own drug war probe in the Senate.
"Since there are no prohibitions, I believe they have all the right to do that but, again, the bigger question that should be asked is 'why would you investigate yourself in your own committee,'" House quad-committee Chairman Robert Ace Barbers said in ANC's Headstart.
When asked if the former PNP chief's move would be used to exonerate himself since he was the one who helmed the drug war itself, Barbers thinks otherwise.
"I don't want to put it that way that they are going use this committee hearing in the Senate. In the first place, the quad-comm is not accusing anyone," he said.
"Since there are other personalities being implicated, we wanted to hear the other side of the coin, inviting those implicated to use this venue to share their side. Unfortunately, those that we invited have not accepted our invitation yet," he added.
Similarly, former senator Leila de Lima also questioned Dela Rosa's plan.
"Puwede ba 'yun akusado ka, ta's magiging judge ka rin," De Lima said.
“There is a basic ethical issue there. Kung iba sana ang mag-preside, puwede. Pero 'yung sila at magpa-participate sa pagtatanong pa, I don’t think that is proper… Katawa-tawa nga,” she told TeleRadyo Serbisyo.
