Composer: Béla Bartók (1881-1945)
Performed by Augustin Hadelich (violin, piano) ([ Ссылка ])
The Romanian Folk Dances (Román népi táncok/Román népi táncdallamok) were composed by Bartók in 1915 but only offered to Universal Edition in December 1917. The Romanian Folk Dances used seven Romanian melodies that Bartók collected between 1910 and 1912 while travelling in the Transylvania region of the country.
Unforeseen to Bartók, this set of six arrangements of Romanian folk melodies became immensely popular in concert halls, thanks to multiple transcriptions made by himself (for orchestra, 1917), by his publisher (for theatre orchestra, 1922 and string orchestra by Arthur Willner, 1928) and, most famously, for violin and piano (1925), by Zoltán Székely. This success led Eugene Ormandy to transcribe the dances for a large orchestra in 1943, to the annoyance of Bartók, who would have preferred his original compositions to have been more frequently performed.
This performance was recorded in June 2020 by Augustin Hadelich, during the COVID-19 hiatus.
