During the Cold War, Spain needed a training rifle in the new caliber of 762 NATO. Turns out that they had a lot of old military surplus Mauser rifles on hand so they were able to utilize them in this capacity. In order to make them appear a little bit more modernized they made some changes to the design. What used to be a Mauser Model 1943 rifle became adapted to a more modernized rifle known as the FR 8.
