The European bee-eater is a near passerine bird in the bee-eater family. Usually seen perched on wires or circling in swallowlike flight, often in small groups. It breeds in southern and central Europe, northern and southern Africa, and western Asia. Except for the resident southern African population, the species is strongly migratory, wintering in tropical Africa. Spectacularly colorful and unmistakable long-billed insect-eater with a bright yellow throat, gemstone-blue belly, and flame-colored back. feeds by catching insects (especially bees) on the wing. Found in open and semiopen country, mainly in drier areas; nests colonially in burrows dug into sand banks, often river banks. Their calls are like ... Locally named YuropIya Bingu Haraya.
