FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. (WKRC) - Search and rescue crews looking for a woman who disappeared with her car in Franklin County have recovered her body, according to the Franklin County sheriff and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources' public information officer.
Crews searched in the area of Walnut Fork and Pipe Creek roads for Carol Jackson of Clarksburg, Indiana, after she disappeared at about 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
Jackson's husband reportedly called 911 to say his wife had been rushed down the stream, trapped in her car after trying to cross it on a slab of concrete. The water was extremely high and fast after heavy rainfall in that area Monday.
They had to call off the search Monday night but resumed at about 8 a.m. Tuesday. Special rescue and recovery officers and safety divers joined the search. Officers and volunteers walked the down-stream section of the creek, and an Indiana State Police helicopter was called in to help search. It went up and down the creek several times, trying to find Jackson. She was found around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
IDNR said Jackson was found about a mile-and-a-half downstream from her car. The car was recovered earlier Tuesday.
Residents in the area say it's nothing new for the creek to spill over its banks. It had just flooded a few weeks ago.
The sheriff said Jackson was the wife of a minister at a church in Clarksburg.
