Hello 👋 friends and welcome back to RtR!
So why is it that when it gets cold out that we have to worry about our batteries dieing? Well truth is that it actually has to do with the summer! During the warm seasons the battery takes a beating. The high temps quickens the erosion of the internal plates and vaporizes the electrolytes faster. But in the summer the engine doesn’t need much power to get started because the oil is thinner. But during the cold months the oil thickens requiring more power from the battery to turn over. So that’s why batteries always die in cold weather. They are actually worn out from the summer heat. One good thing to do in the summer to prevent this is to park in shaded areas or in the garage.
