The NATO-led KFOR mission completed the removal of barricades in northern Kosovo, following intensive efforts by NATO Allies and the European Union to defuse tensions between Serbia and Kosovo. NATO supports the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, and KFOR demonstrates how NATO and the European Union work together, with NATO forces supporting the EU’s diplomatic efforts in Kosovo.

NATO’s Kosovo Force (KFOR) continues to support the development of an inclusive, democratic, and multi-ethnic Kosovo. KFOR remains vigilant and has the capability and personnel to continue implementing its UN mandate, thereby contributing to security in Kosovo and to stability across the Western Balkans region.

KFOR was mandated by the United Nations Security Council, with the aim to deploy a neutral peacekeeping mission in the immediate aftermath of NATO’s intervention aimed at ending the humanitarian catastrophe that was unfolding in and around Kosovo.
