I moved to Sarasota in 2007 from Ohio and we love everything about Sarasota! There is so much to do in the lively city and it's a great place for retirement and relocation. There are dozens of reasons to move to or live in Sarasota, but we chose our Top 5 right here!
Absolute best beaches around Siesta Key & Lido Beach~Siesta Key makes the top 10 US beaches year after year and often makes the #1 spot as "Best Beach in the US". Its quartz sand is like baby powder and never gets hot! Siesta Key hosts annual events such as the Crystal Classic and volleyball tournaments as well.
Small-Town Vibe: Sarasota has such a small-town vibe that makes you feel welcome wherever you go! I love the laid-back feel of Siesta Key, where you can walk around casually in flip-flops and a t-shirt. We love all of the Sarasota Tiki Bars at some great local restaurants like Walt's Fish Market Restaurant & Tiki Bar, Phillippi Creek, O'Leary's, and Captain Curts.
Amazing Boating: Sarasota & Manatee counties have fun waterfront restaurants, great canals, excellent fishing & awesome sand bars.
Fantastic Dining Options in the Greater Sarasota Area: Did you know Sarasota County has 21 Zagat Rated Restaurants, which is the most trusted name in restaurant recommendations? The amazing variety of restaurant types is incredible; from Italian, Greek, Thai, Sushi, Korean, Mexican, and seafood to Indian and Peruvian, Sarasota has it all! Waterfront dining is also one of our favorites. The Dry Dock, Shore, and Ophelia's are my top picks.
Arts and Culture - Referred to as the “Culture Coast of Florida," Sarasota offers such amazing choices when it comes to arts & culture. We have awesome theatre venues such as the Van Wezel for Performing Arts, the Asolo Repertory Theatre, the Sarasota Opera House, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, and Florida Studio Theatre. There is also the Sarasota Orchestra, Ringling Museum of Art, and the Sarasota Ballet. Sarasota is also hosting to the Sarasota Film Festival and offers first-run foreign, independent & art films. A variety of art shows happen throughout the year in Sarasota as well. The next greatest project will be the Sarasota Performing Arts Center, which will be built in downtown Sarasota and bring in large broadway acts and larger performances from around the globe.
