In this video (warning: it's 53 minutes long with the demo flight, 30+ without the flight) I talk about the various options for simulating the G1000 with hardware in a home cockpit, and explain why I chose Simionic above the other options for the new sim.

Also also: sorry about the variable sound and occasionally image quality here. It was filmed with multiple different cameras without a 'master' microphone available, as my lavalier mic is broken and I couldn't get a replacement in time. One is on order now! Also I've got unseasonal allergies and was a bit stuffy and croaky the day I recorded this. The lengths I go to for you, my audience...

Finally also: I noted this in the actual video, but the footage from inside the sim in the demo flight is stuttery. This stutter is all from the video capture. The sim itself is ultra-smooth, far more so than I have ever managed in P3D. I'm still trying to get OBS to capture smoothly after multiple years of using it. Hopefully I'll get that fixed soon!

I make videos about building and operating a flight simulator out of my back bedroom. The videos here cover a wide range of topics within flight simulation but especially how to build and maintain a sim, including constructing your own equipment, screens and projectors, sim software setup and software development for simulators. I also film flights in the sim which I upload edited highlights of, and sometimes entire unedited flights.

Currently, the simulator consists of 2 PCs running Prepar3d v5.2, Active Sky for P3D, and Wideview / Widetraffic. The display is home-built and uses BenQ short-throw projectors. The console and panels are home-built also.

I'm not a professional pilot and I make a lot of mistakes, but I have a lot of fun and if you're interested in aviation and in particular home cockpit building, you should subscribe!

Temporary simulator specs are:

Main PC: Core i7 9700K 9th-gen CPU overclocked to 4.7 GHz / 32 GB RAM / 512 GB NVMe + 2TB HDD storage / GTX3080Ti / Win10 Pro / SPAD.Next etc

The console is also home-built and has: 2 touch-screen monitors / OpenCockpits 737 MCP v2 / PFC yoke / Saitek switch panel / Simionic G1000 set.

The throttle quadrant is by Throttletek and is an custom Airbus-style flightbox with throttles, flaps and spoiler controls and engine start panel. A VirtualFly TQ6+ throttle quadrant is used when flying piston engine and turbojet aircraft.
