Video shows Elmhurst, Illinois in 1938 before the area was fully urbanized. A large part of the South end of town is shown with streets and walks, but the homes are yet to be built. There is no audio so I suggest you play some Benny Goodman which would be appropriate for the era. This is an experimental video I created by using the 1938 series of aerial photos for Illinois. I downloaded the stills from the state site and then enhanced them slightly. The view goes from a wide shot of the town to progressively closer views. The are seven views all together. Each view starts with some minor labeling to help you establish street names and railroads. The labels are then withdrawn to enable a "clean" view."

I recommend going to the Illinois Geological Society web site to examine the awesome project they have put together. By downloading a minor "widget" you can enable your web browser to view numerous stills with pan and magnification. Again at [ Ссылка ]
