Vintage 1960' Kay 704 Suitcase Amp
Solid State
Made in the USA
In 1962, the Kay Musical Instrument Company of Chicago introduced the Vanguard line of guitars and amps. That new line included the Kay Vanguard Amplifier with Vibrato. The Vanguard were the world’s first mass-produced all-transistor (solid-state) guitar amplifiers. Kay was the first company to offer a full line of exclusively solid-state amps to market in ’62. 5-watt solid-state combo amp with built-in vibrato effect. 8-inch speaker. Perfect little amp for practice, recording, or small gigs. Vintage 60′s tone. Extremely compact and portable design. Vintage Germanium transistors and diodes. Simple chassis layout. This old school amp designed more like a tube amp than a solid-state amp. Awesome vintage vibrato circuit.
Professionally upgraded two years ago to have a fully-grounded power cable, and had the "death capacitor" removed. Now you can play a with your vintage amp in a garage without having to worry about being electricuted, as can happen with other vintage amps without safety upgrades.
