The world has lost another great voice. Ben E. King, the R&B singer behind the classic Stand By Me, died of natural causes on Thursday. King’s publicist confirmed on Friday. He is survived by his wife, Betty, his three children, and six grandchildren. The music legend found fame in the late '50s with The Drifters, releasing hits like "There Goes My Baby" and "Save the Last Dance For Me. In 1961, King established his solo stardom when he released "Stand By Me," which was named one of the Songs of the Century by the Recording Industry Association of America. This morning, fans and celebrities took to Twitter and Facebook to honor his legacy. Quarter to Three singer Gary U.S. Bonds wrote a touching tribute to his friend: With an extremely heavy heart, I must say goodbye to one of the sweetest, gentlest and gifted souls that I have had the privilege of knowing and calling my friend for more than 50 years… I can tell you that Ben E. will be missed more than words can say. Our sincere condolences go out to Betty and the entire family. Thank you Ben E. for your friendship and the wonderful legacy you leave behind.
