Yesterday afternoon Blues went top of League One after a tricky but well fought victory against Peterborough United.
Blues started extremely poor and were a goal down within the opening five minutes off the game.
Bailey Peacock Farrell demanded far too much time on the ball and Posh striker Ricky-Jade Jones forced the Blues keeper to make the error that gave the visitors a sudden and shocking lead.
The travelling supporters were soon up out of their seats celebrating again.
16 minutes on the clock, Jadel Katongo’s perfectly weighted cross found Emmanuel Fernandez’s head who guided in a second.
Doubling their advantage, and shocking the home fans.
Blues needed a response and were close to getting one through Lyndon Dykes but was denied on the line by Jack Sparkes.
The 24-year-old denying the Scottish international his first goal for the club since joining in August.
Just as the home support was beginning to get restless, Emil Hansson’s cross found the big Icelandic Willum Willumsson who thrashed home a much needed first of the afternoon for Blues.
It proved to be the turning point in the game as shortly after the break, Jay Stansfield got a shot away that deflected awkwardly off Oscar Wallin and into the back of the Posh net to draw the two sides level.
The momentum swung in Blues’ favour from there on out.
Stansfield had another great chance but his shot soared past former Villa keeper Jed Steer’s right hand post.
As did Scott Wright’s attempt moments later.
But Blues didn’t slip up on missing those big chances and took the lead through captain Krystian Bielik in the 66th minute.
The big Polish centre half got enough on the end of Iwata’s wonderful delivery to put Blues in front for the first time in the game.
The visitors looked exhausted from then onwards as Blues pushed for a fourth.
Willumsson came closest.
His deflected effort on goal was kept out well by Steer and Alfie May was judged offside by the official on the near side.
But in the end Blues didn’t need to worry about extending their lead and their sixth consecutive three points saw them go top of the table after Wrexham failed to win at Leyton Orient.
A good day all round for the home side which manager Chris Davies was keen to show afterwards when celebrating with the fans.
“We are top of the league” rung about St. Andrew’s after the final whistle and deservedly so.
We’ve started the league the best and fingers crossed we’ve started as we intend to go on.
Huddersfield Tuesday night.
Can we make it seven in a row?
Thanks for watching!
Keep Right On 💙
