A couple of years ago Ben & I purchased a pair of new WR450F enduro bikes. One of the main advantages was that although the bikes are dedicated Enduro bikes with high performance, tuned engines we were still able to have them as registered, road legal bikes. This gives the bikes so much more flexibility and helped justify the high price tag.
Yamaha supplies the bikes with all the parts required for both off-road race use & on-road riding & part of that kit is a change in the final drive ratio, to gear the bike down when off-road giving more torque & to increase the ratios when on-road to give good cruising speeds and reduce engine rpm - a real bonus and a necessity of your planning not to blow the motor up!
So, in this video I run through what's required to change the front & rear final drive sprockets, changing the on road gearing (14 front, 47 rear standard) to 13 front & 50 tooth rear - again standard Yamaha specs.
The sprockets were included in the pack that came with the bike together with a few other goodies which I'll be doing more videos covering sometime soon.
Included in the video are all the torque settings and helpful tips so you can perform this task correctly knowing you did a great job.
This procedure would apply to pretty much all chain driven motorcycles, with only the torque settings been specific to you machine.
Any questions or comments then just add them below & I'll do my best to get back to you soon...
