For 87 years, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery has been guarded continuously, every minute of every day, since July 2, 1937.

This historic monument honors the unidentified U.S. service members who sacrificed their lives in service to their country. Guarded by the dedicated soldiers of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, "The Old Guard," the tomb symbolizes the nation's eternal respect for those who gave everything in the line of duty.

The World War I "Unknown" interred here is a recipient of the Medal of Honor, the Victoria Cross, and numerous other prestigious awards from foreign nations. This sacred site remains a powerful reminder of the courage and commitment of all U.S. military personnel.
