Swede now up to third overall as Timmy Hansen leads brother Kevin by 17 points.
Johan Kristoffersson got his 2021 World RX title hopes back on track at the two Latvian rounds this weekend as a Sunday race victory saw him cut Timmy Hansen's lead down to 20 points. Timmy's strong start to the 2021 campaign had seen him open up a 10-point gap to younger brother Kevin with compatriot Kristoffersson down the order behind Hungarian driver Krisztián Szabó.
In Saturday's first round of two around the Riga track, Kristoffersson, 2016 champion Mattias Ekström and Niclas Grönholm topped Q1, Q2 and Q3 respectively with Kristoffersson winning the first semi-final from Timmy and Szabó and Grönholm the second semi from Timo Scheider and Kevin.
It was Finnish driver Grönholm, though, who started strongly in Saturday's final to build up a gap that Timmy and Kevin could not bridge in their Peugeots with Kristoffersson down in fifth place.
On Sunday, Ekström topped Q1 with Grönholm dominating Q2, Q3 and then the first semi-final with Timmy and German Scheider earning their places in the second final of the weekend as Kristoffersson won the second semi-final from Ekström and Kevin to set up a thrilling last race.
Kristoffersson got a dream start off the line to move around Grönholm into first place and held his nerve on the final joker lap to claim his 25th career World RX win and fourth on this particular circuit.
Grönholm banked second to complete a classy weekend with Timmy managing a damaged wing superbly to nick third place off a final joker from Ekström with Kevin in fifth and Szabó back in sixth.
Kristoffersson, 32, said: "I had a very good start. I had a steering lock up and I had to shift the gears. The guys really deserve this victory because we have been working very, very hard."
The 2021 World RX season now moves on to the Benelux World RX of Spa-Francorchamps from October 9-10.
