In October, I participated in SAAL Digital's Photobook Review Experience. I received a $150 voucher to review one of their Professional Line photobooks. I made a travel album on a 12 x 8" book, 50 pages, glossy, acrylic + leather cover.
Breakdown of my review:
SOFTWARE
Pros:
-Easy to use
-Select photos directly from computer/hard drive
-No need to upload images (typically large file sizes) online = quicker import
-Layouts available + can customize after selecting
Cons:
-Once you make your selection for the type of book (normal, professional line, size) and start editing, you can not change it. You can export and import your design, but can not change the type of book (“the product”)
ACRYLIC COVER
Pros:
-Beautiful cover & unique look
Cons:
-Easily scratched - ruins the aesthetic
-Mine arrived with a printing error in the corner
PAGES & PRINT QUALITY
Pros:
-Thick pages - they don’t bend easily while handling the pages
-Glossy pages for color images = good quality
-Lay flat pages is fantastic - means an image can be placed over the center crease and full image is visible
Cons:
-Pages from the side seem to have a wave (not straight/flat)
-Need to double check if color is consistent between books I ordered; second book I ordered is possibly duller / darker *will update after I have them next to each other*
CUSTOMER SERVICE & SHIPPING
-Excellent customer service! Response to inquiries within 24-48 hours, very polite and helpful
-Ships from Germany to the U.S. through DHL - my first order came within 1 week, 2nd & 3rd (possibly due to the pandemic + December holidays) took 2-3 weeks
-Good packaging, arrived in great condition
