On June 30 2017, the Denver Art Museum wheeled out “La Musidora,”
a 90-foot-long stretch of colorful, interlocking rocking chairs.
Dreamed up by Mexico City designers Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena, each chair is outfitted with “a module with a percussion system,” which uses bells to produce pitches.
“La Musidora” is a portmanteau of the Spanish words for “music,” which is “música,” and “rocking chair,” “mecedora.”
The installation can seat 20 individuals at a time, who can rock out a melody just by taking a load off.
