Review:
The Me Creator 2 is a Good All Around Feature Packed 3D Printer. The chassis design and motor configuration make this a durable and solid printer.
Back in the day you either had to shell out a lot of money, or spend a lot of time researching designs and sourcing parts to build your own 3D Printer. Luckily that has changed over the last few years and 3D printing is becoming more and more affordable. GeeeTech/GiantArm are doing a good job positioning themselves as a new leader in the retail 3D printer market. You can see the evolution of their designs and company from the early models to their current offerings which include multi-extruder (multi-color) printers like the Prusa and Rostock printers. I can't wait to get my hands on those! They are constantly improving their products, even adding a part cooling fan to the Me Creator 2 even in the last couple weeks.
As far as a 3D printer goes, the Me Creator 2 has the best balance between price, features and component quality that I have seen. Many more expensive printers lack some of the features the Me Creator 2 has. The rigid cube chassis allows one to add on enclosure panels, additional lighting an cooling and other bells and whistles. Having the power supply and control board fully enclosed underneath the printer keep it looking clean while protecting all of the vital electronics.
The front LCD PID control output is very nice. Even just being able to preheat the extruder to change filaments without a computer attached makes this an awesome feature, but adding to that full manual control and standalone printing capability is something to be said for a 3D printer in this price range.
The default config files they link to in the user manual work pretty good for most situations. Make sure you start with those. The link is on page 44 of the user manual. I ended up doing a lot of tweaking and messing around to get the best possible prints I could on different parts. When it comes to 3D printing, every printer, even every brand or color of filament takes minor adjustments and setting changes. I'm going to do a series of videos on my GadgetClass YouTube channel to cover a lot of the basics. I will post my better Slic3r config files there as well so make sure you check that out if you are having any difficulties with this printer.
My only complaints about this printer are:
1: The bottom cooling fan is in the back, right, bottom corner, where the home position is. The little hairs and bits of filament that ooze out can get sucked into the fan
2: I would like to see 4 screws instead of just 3 for leveling the bed.
Both of these are minor and all 3D printers have quirks like this
I have spent a lot of time every day for the last 3 weeks using and testing this printer to give everyone the best review I could. After all of that time (and filament) I can easily recommend this printer. Whether you are just starting out or need another single extruder printer, this is a good solid option for the price point.
