Orchard Park, N.Y. (WHAM) — Bills fans faced longer wait times for parking for Sunday's season opener as they await the completion of the new Highmark Stadium, currently under construction across the street from the stadium the team has called home since 1973.
Excitement was in the air as fans tailgated outside the stadium before kickoff on opening day. While waiting in line to enter the stadium, some paused to take photos of the massive construction project across the street. The anticipated 1.35 million-square-foot facility is set to open in 2026.
Once completed, the stadium is expected to hold 60,000 people. But the site of the construction project is a former parking lot, and fans are left with slightly less options, creating more opportunity for private lots.
