Mah Jongg was a nationwide fad in the 1920s, played across the country by men and women. Then it became a social lifeline for generations of Jewish women through the end of the 20th century. Since the 1990s Mah Jongg has undergone a revival. It's attracting younger players, as well as non-Jewish players. Older Jewish women are bringing the game to new audiences as they move to diverse retirement homes, or teach younger players in their communities. Contrary to some stereotypes, Mah Jongg is a very exciting game, and it's grabbing the attention of a lot of people!
