Thinking about installing some plumbing in your basement but your sewer line out of the house is above the basement floor? If that's the case, you will probably need a pump of some kind and the most common is a sump pump. Regardless of what type of pump you choose, it's standard practice to install the pump per the manufacturer installation instructions. Follow your instructions exactly and you should never have a problem!
Standard installation of a sump pump has a check valve and ball valve installed on the drain line out the pump, while the vent pipe may or may not be required to run up through the roof on its own. Though it's not always feasible, the drain line from the pump should connect to the main sewer line as far downstream as possible. Certain code books like to see that pump line exit the house first if possible.
